One-point Perspective — Color Wheels
| 6th Grade |
Project Scope:
Students were tasked with creating their own cities using a one-point perspective drawing technique, all while creating the illusion that they were one the ground and looking straight up towards the sky. For these 6th graders, I wanted to give them a challenge. Nothing too difficult but something that would stimulate their brains enough to really make them think. This is a double whammy lesson which covers both color theory (color wheel) and one-point perspectives. The perspective part is the most challenging; as most, if not all students, will be very familiar with the color wheel. The fun part of this is using the watercolors to the buildings and night sky above to life.
Learning Objective—
Students will learn that they can create a bug’s-eye-view of a cityscape using a one-point-perspective in the form of a color wheel.
Enduring Understanding—
Artists and designers experiment with forms, structures, materials, concepts, media, and art-making approaches.
Creativity and innovative thinking are essential life skills that can be developed.
Students are experimenting with building height, size, design, type.
Students added coffee shops, historical buildings, banks, malls, even a hot-dog emporium.
Students are experimenting with the concept of illusion and one-point perspectives
