Tissue Paper Abstracts—

For 2nd and 3rd graders, we explored tissue paper by creating abstract compositions. This is a lower risk project but rich in the sense that I am introducing them to an artist who works with tissue paper professionally. Maya Freelon, the artist, is incredible and perfect for this lesson.

Snowflake Monoprints—

For kindergarten and 1st graders, I took a crack at mono-printing with a snowflake design. I feel like I took a risk with this lesson because k-1st graders have the least amount of motor-skills out of all the grades. This lesson required the use of a paint brush and a Q-tip for mark making on top of plexiglass sheets.

Perspective Color Wheels—

For the 6th graders, I wanted to give them a challenge. Nothing too difficult but something that would stimulate their brains enough to really make them think. This is a double whammy lesson which covers both color theory (color wheel) and one-point perspectives. The perspective part is the most challenging as most, if not all students, will be very familiar with the color wheel. The fun part of this is using the watercolors to create the buildings and night sky above.
