Tissue Paper Abstracts—
| 2nd & 3rd Grade |
Project scope—
For 2nd and 3rd graders, we explored tissue paper by creating abstract compositions. This is a lower risk project but rich in the sense that I am introducing them to an artist who works with tissue paper professionally. Maya Freelon, the artist, is incredible and perfect for this lesson.
Learning Objectives—
Students will learn that they can create an abstract composition through the layering of different colored and shaped tissue papers.
Students will learn that they can create different colors by layering colored tissue paper.

Students benefit from experimenting and discovering new things. This leads to problem solving, increased curiosity, and higher levels of engagement.
Students can discover that color mixing can be achieved; not only using paint.
